The Estudiantes de La Plata club received the first part of the loan agreed upon with investor Foster Gillett, confirming that negotiations with the American were never off. Currently, the 'Pincha' already has five million dollars, and it is expected that in the coming weeks, the transfer of the remaining 4.7 million will take place to complete the original agreement.
Amidst criticism for the delay in payment and issues with player transfers, the club's management always maintained confidence that the money would arrive. Even president Juan Sebastián Verón hinted at this on social media, stating: 'Whatever the situation, we lift our heads and always move forward.'
This loan allowed the club to navigate the transfer market without needing to sell players, although the delay in payment led Estudiantes' management to rearrange internal resources. For example, the signing of Ezequiel Piovi involved settling a debt with Liga de Quito to enable him before receiving Gillett's funds.
The relationship with the American businessman remains strong, and the commercial agreement is still active. Once the second payment is completed, a date will be set for a meeting that was initially scheduled for mid-March 2025 but will be postponed. It was clarified by Gillett's entourage that the delay was due to administrative issues requiring the presentation of financial guarantees.
In the coming weeks, the arrival of the remaining 4.7 million dollars is expected to be finalized, definitively closing the operation between Estudiantes and Gillett.
